Europe’s finest travel brands have been unveiled at the World Travel Awards Europe Gala Ceremony 2018 held in Athens, Greece last week, with Lisbon winning ‘Europe’s Leading City Destination’. Portugal was once again named ‘Europe’s Leading Destination’, whilst Turismo de Portugal was voted ‘Europe’s Leading Tourist Board’.
In total, Portugal received 36 awards at the annual ceremony.
The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry.
Today, the WTA brand is recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality, with winners setting the benchmark to which all others aspire.
The voting process is online and a year-long communications campaign encourages global participation from qualified executives working within travel and tourism and the consumer travel buyer.
Known as the Oscars of Tourism, these awards are often seen as a tool to predict future increases in tourist numbers, with the 2018 awards once again highlighting Portugal as one of the best travel destinations in the world and the best in Europe.
So now really is the best time to buy as house prices have been increasing for 18 consecutive quarters and the trend has been accelerating over the last five. Real estate continues to attract investment, not only due to high tourist demand, as can be seen from above, but also due to Portugal’s stable political and economic climate.
And reassuringly, German ratings agency Scope Ratings, says it sees no indications that a housing bubble is developing. It is much more inclined to view property price increases as “a recovery from the downturns”. Thus Portugal’s ‘real-estate boom’ appears sustainable.
